Kas Kastner and Lew Spencer in action at Pomona.
If you look at Kas in the above photo you will notice that he is somehow leaning partly to the inside -not quite as much as you would expect while the car is wonderfully over-steering. The answer Mr. Kastner says is that he is pulling on the rear wheel break lever (to initiate the slide) using his right hand. How he manages to steer to the outside with his left hand and keep the car in control is spectacular.
Lew Spencer once bought a TR Motor from Kas for $11.00....
".....Lew was out practicing for the endurance races at Riverside and blew up three engines in two days. Fired his motor guy and as I was his best friend asked me if there was anything I could do to get him at least started in the event. I took the three blown up junkies home, mixed and matched ,added on new sleeve and a head gasket and he not only practiced and qualified but came second overall in the event. Thus the $11 bucks was for those two parts and rest was friendship. He and I once raced at Pomona a full lap after the checkered flag not knowing the event was over. We were hard competitors. I have some great photos of he and I from that race."
